New Views recent drawings and paintings For this exhibition George Schmidt has assembled a group of recent paintings and drawings that reflect his continued interest in landscape, and in particular, a pared down simplicity, where forms and images are balanced between the literal and the abstract. His drawings and paintings blend and merge landscape and architecture into pattern and geometric abstraction, while his pallette, and casually virtuosic paint handling create images that are invitingly effortless, layered, and warmly colorful. George Schmidt has for many years lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY. He recieved a BFA from Parsons School of Design, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
