The Ann Tower Gallery is pleased to present
Time Suspended: New Paintings by Ulrike Hahn.
The German artist has created 20 new paintings in her Berlin
studio for this exhibition, and she will be joining us for
the opening reception on Friday, September 15, from 5 to 8
pm. Ms. Hahn has become well known for her expressionistic
paintings that capture a moment and suggest a narrative. Using
a warm, rich palette, she presents enigmatic situations that
question identity and place with figures, still lifes, landscapes,
and abstraction. In addition to the paintings, Hahn is producing
an edition of 40 large-scaled, original silkscreen prints
especially for this exhibition. This is Hahn’s second
solo show at the gallery.
Ulrike Hahn was born in Zwickau, Germany and began her studies
in fashion design at the Berlin School for Clothing and Design.
In 1991, she realigned her artistic focus to concentrate on
painting and graphic arts and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree
from the Berlin School of Art. Hahn returned to the Berlin
School of Art 10 years later to complete a Master of Art in
Context degree. She continues to divide her time between Berlin
and Atlanta. Her paintings and drawings have been displayed
in galleries in Europe and the US, and she has participated
in group and solo exhibitions in Germany, Spain, New York
City, Lexington and Louisville. Her work is in many public
and private collections around the world, including Brown
Forman in Louisville, KY; W.H. Berghuis in Assen, Holland;
and Outward Bound in Schloss Kröchlendorf, Germany.
