Of Water and Spirit: New Paintings by Patrick Adams
February 10 - April 1, 2012
Opening Reception for the Artist, Friday, February 10, from 5 to 7 pm
Gallery Hop Reception, Friday, February 17, 5 to 8 pm
Please join us for a reception for the artist on Friday, Feb 10, from 5 to 7 pm to see "Of Water and Spirit: New Paintings by Patrick Adams," an exhibition of eleven, new large-scaled paintings that are inspired by Adams' observations of the light, color, and forms found in the surface patterns of water on creeks and streams.
Like his previous work, these paintings are rich, shimmering responses to Nature and all its mystery and beauty. The new paintings, however, created over
the last year or two, reflect a major shift in Adams' focus. Close range and abstracted depictions of water have replaced his spacious views of land and sky,
identified by a horizon line. He interprets and transforms the closely observed phenomena of water in the natural world, creating thickly painted, multi-layered,
colorful, and luminous paintings. His mastery of the sensual texture and color of oil paint is wonderfully evident. Adams explained he's evoking "a world, at
once shadowy and glittering, where spirit and matter meet."
Patrick Adams earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Kentucky in 1992. He teaches in the Art Department at Asbury College and at Eastern Kentucky University.
Adams' work has been included in exhibitions at several galleries and museums throughout the region, and he shows his work regularly in Chicago and Nashville. He has twice been
awarded the prestigious Al Smith Fellowship from the Kentucky Arts Council, and his paintings are in many private and corporate collections across the United States. He resides
with his wife Terre and their children in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
We will also have a new group exhibition of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture by artists represented by the gallery.
Please contact the gallery or visit for more information
